Kicking Pass……

Good morning from the Jumpseat!  Shhhhh, quiet we hear a pass alarm going off.  Should we send someone to investigate?  This is a growing concern in today’s fire service.  Pass alarms should be sounding for a firefighter in trouble, not a firefighter who has exited the structure and laid their airpack down.

This growing trend is leading us to disaster!  If we become complacent about hearing the alarm, how will handle when a firefighter goes missing and no one notices their pass alarm going off? How does your department handle pass alarm activation’s?

  • Every Pass alarm sounding should be investigated, thanks Chief Fisher
  • Firefighters should be training to prevent activation

Make sure that every time you take a pack of air off that you immediately deactivate your pass alarm.  Discipline when controlling the pass is essential for making us all safer!
